Making Big Plays
Rehabbing Red Sox starter baffles Minor League hitters: In his performance on Thursday, John Smoltz allowed just one hit, walking none and striking out two
Smoltz’s Minor League rehab clock officially started on Thursday night, as the veteran right-hander fired three scoreless innings for Class A Greenville in a game played in Augusta, Ga.
It was a fitting locale for Smoltz to jump-start his comeback, given his status as a scratch golfer who has Tiger Woods on his speed dial.
“I think he would go to Augusta every time,” quipped Red Sox manager Terry Francona. “You put a golf course in the same city, and he’ll go pitch as much as you want.”
