The 32-year-old Tichenor, up from the Triple-A Pacific Coast League, gave the boot to both catchers and both managers during a wild seventh inning that ended with Red Sox starter Josh Beckett giving a dismissive wave toward home plate in disgust.
Smoltz: 'My radar screen has Boston on it' →
If Smoltz sticks with his schedule, his first Red Sox start would be June 16, a home game against the Florida Marlins.
Two things to keep in mind:
Brad Penny is eligible to be traded anytime after June 15th. Any N.L. teams out there need a #3 or 4 starter?
Smoltz second start would be five days later against the Atlanta Braves, with whom Smoltz spent the first 20 years of his career.

Could there be a trade in the works? I can’t say for sure yet but it wouldn’t surprise me if he takes a day or two off, he is injury prone after all, while Washington mulls over some offers.
The Red Sox have to be thinking long & hard about adding another quality bat. How about a deal that looks like this:
Nats send: (1B/DH)Nick Johnson & (UTIL)Anderson Hernadez(that’s...
No Julio Lugo in the lineup today
Good to see Terry Francona sitting him down again, something he may not have done in the past & definitely not 2 days in a row fearing that the players psyche would suffer. Nick Green is not a perfect solution but at least he puts forth the effort on defense and has enough offense to justify his defensive shortcomings being overlooked.

The Science of Baseball by Dennis Eckersley

nysportsfan:
While watching tonight’s Mets/Red Sox game on Boston’s NESN, color commentator Dennis Eckersley (after letting an expletive fly during last night’s game) bestowed the following piece of baseball wisdom on the viewers during the seventh inning with Ramon Martinez at the plate and runners on first and third:
You gotta get this guy out…you gotta punch this guy out, is what...
K-Rod Taken To Hospital
hotfoot:
From Adam Rubin…
Francisco Rodriguez was taken my ambulance to a Boston hospital after the game to get checked out, in obvious discomfort from back spasms that struck him while running pregame.
“I’ve never experienced some pain like the way that I have right now,” K-Rod said. “I’ve been struggling even to walk. Tomorrow is another day. We’ll see how my body responds for tomorrow.

Let's fix this: The art of mixing pitches
This is the first installment of what I hope becomes a consistent series of opinion posts detailing how various athletes, or even entire teams, that have run into performance issues can attempt to make a fix. Some will be short term ideas, while others may be long term team philosophical changes on things like offensive or defensive schemes.
Tonight I start it off with a fresh wound that will...

winstonwolfe:
Story of the game so far: Sox & Mets are making things difficult on their respective starting pitchers and driving up the pitch counts, which is important for both starters, by playing sloppily in the field.
Baserunning not exactly stellar either

Joba Chamberlain departs game after being struck... →
Yankees right-hander Joba Chamberlain has left his start against the Baltimore Orioles after being struck on the right leg by Adam Jones’ liner in the first inning.
Jones’ ball with one out hit Chamberlain just above his knee. Chamberlain threw to first to retire the center fielder, took a few shaky steps near the mound then bent over as manager Joe Girardi and trainer Gene Monahan...
Jake Peavy trade btwn. San Diego Padres & Chicago... →
winstonwolfe:
The White Sox have reached agreement with the Padres on a trade for Jake Peavy but are awaiting Peavy’s approval now, SI.com has learned.
Interesting trade but will have to wait to see what Sox gave up before knowing how the deal fully affects each team. Some sources have said Peavy was adamant about only wanting to go to a Mid-West located club
Congrats!!

This and this made my day. It’s all about the little victories. Thanks, guys!
Sports bloggers come along almost every day *looking in the mirror* but the really good ones are much more rare. Weiunderpar, in my opinion, is on pace to be the “go to” blog when it comes to all things golf on Tumblr.
